Julie is a woodwind and piano teacher here on Anglesey, where she also works as a secondary school teacher. She trained as a professional oboe player at the Royal Academy of Music.

She started her musical career at the age of 9 playing the flute, moving onto the oboe at age 11. From there she worked her way up through all of the local youth orchestras, until reaching the National Youth Orchestra of Wales, with whom she performed on principal oboe.

She studied at the Royal Academy of Music from 1993 – 1997 and upon graduating, was offered a position as a woodwind teacher with the Swindon Music Cooperative, where she provided woodwind tuition to 4 primary schools and 4 secondary schools, whilst also directing the junior youth wind band and co-directing the parent and toddler music group.

Since then she has taken her teaching and performing skills worldwide, including two years in Australia where she worked as a teacher and trainer and performed on principal oboe for the Fremantle Symphony Orchestra.

After becoming a ‘mummy’ to three lovely children she returned to Anglesey, and completed her Postgraduate Certificate in Education s(P.G.C.E) before beginning work as a secondary school teacher in 2017, where she taught GCSE Music, and helped pupils develop their woodwind, piano, keyboard and vocal skills.

Passionate about the value music can bring to children and adults alike, her career as a music performer and teacher has allowed her to witness first-hand the joy music can bring, and the confidence it can cultivate in anyone who participates in it. Julie appreciates that the benefits of musical education are endless, which is why it is her privilege and joy to be able to
support and guide other aspiring musicians on their musical journeys.
